Jubilee 2000

Why celebrate Jubilee 2000?

The Jubilee Year is an opportunity for people to deepen their faith and to strengthen their Christian witness through personal and communal conversion. Let this year be an opportunity to renew our spirits, strengthen our ministry, and further our evangelizing outreach. Here are five more reasons to celebrate this Jubilee Year!

Adoration - WON’T YOU SPEND ONE HOUR WITH ME?

Each parish in the Archdiocese has been asked to have Exposition of the Eucharist one day every week for one year in celebration of the Jubilee Year 2000.

Here, at St. Patrick Parish, we will have the opportunity to spend some quiet time with our Eucharistic Lord exposed in the Monstrance on our altar, every Tuesday from February 22, 2000 to January 4, 2001 from 12Noon until 7:00PM.

It is necessary that someone be present during these hours of exposition to insure the safety of the Blessed Sacrament. As part of your personal spiritual life during this Holy Year, please consider spending some time each Tuesday before our Eucharistic Lord. If you can dedicate one hour each Tuesday, please notify the rectory. We will only have Eucharistic adoration if we are assured that there will be people in Church during the above hours.

Fifteen Ways to Live Jubilee Year 2000!

  1. Pray daily - Use personal prayer, the Scriptures, meditation, and spiritual reading. Make prayers of praise and petition a regular part of your prayer life.
  2. Practice forgiveness - On a regular basis, examine your conscience and celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. What changes do I need to make in my life? Whom do I need to forgive? Where do I need forgiveness?
  3. Celebrate the Eucharist - Actively participate in the Eucharistic liturgy every Sunday and during the week, if possible.
  4. Make a visit to the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesdays, from noon to 7PM.
  5. Participate in our 40 Hours Eucharistic Devotions in October.
  6. Live a just life - Work against discrimination, racism, and oppression. Treat all people with the dignity they deserve as a son and as a daughter of God.
  7. Help the poor - Practice charity by assisting those living in poverty, who are in need of food, shelter, clothes, and jobs, and promote community-based solutions to the causes of injustice and poverty.
  8. Everyone belongs to a family - Nurture the love within it. Make time for each other - for those you love and for those who love you. Practice not taking these people for granted. Pray and work together as a family. Be considerate of those who are part of your extended family, community, or the larger family of God.
  9. Share faith - Talk about God's presence in your life with other people. The more you do this, the easier it becomes. Our Disciples in Mission program beginning this year provides an excellent opportunity to share your faith. Be an evangelizer, someone who has zeal for life rooted in the Gospel and is willing to share it in dialogue, mutually and freely with others - friends, family, co-workers, even strangers.
  10. Be active in your parish community - The community experience can help you strengthen your faith and to receive support to live your faith. Click here to learn how you can become more active in our parish community.
  11. Perform works of charity.
  12. Be reconciled to God in the Sacrament of Confession.
  13. Know your faith - Make time to learn more about the teachings of the Church. Read and study the Scriptures. Take advantage of adult education and formation opportunities offered by our parish and diocese.
  14. Plan on a pilgrimage to the St. Katherine Drexel shrine in September.
  15. Attend the Eucharistic Procession on the Parkway October 22nd.
